The project started as a freight audit project. We then concluded that we were missing essential data in order to rate (pre-calculate) shipment cost, like the weight and dimensions of each shipment. These details were entered in the various webportals of carriers, but were not available in any system to JLG or BlueRock.

We proposed to implement a simple booking portal where all carriers would be integrated for booking, printing their barcode labels, receiving track and trace updates and electronic invoices. The advantage was that data of weight and volume would be available in the BlueRock platform.

The next development was that JLG outsourced their EMEA warehouse operations to Broekman Logistics. With Broekman we worked out a concept to integrate the BlueRock booking platform with the WMS system to allow for a fully automated booking process triggered by a barcode scan in the goods ready area. The Warehouse Management System (WMS) collects the weight and dimensions by an automated scanner and by scanning the barcode of the picking ticket, the shipment details are sent to the BlueRock platform. The platform automatically selects the best carrier and returns the related barcode label to a printer in the warehouse. In addition carriers are assigned by sending of EDI messages, carriers send track & trace data back to the platform as well as electronic carrier invoices.

The BlueRock platform simplified the booking process for Broekman Logistics, the overall control & monitoring of JLG. And last, but not least, the freight audit is now robust and accurate.
